‘Ascent Of Man And Woman’ by Ralph Steadman
Signed, limited edition of 25
Ralph Steadman is one of the world’s most
respected artists known for his distinctive
anarchic style and his close collaboration
with American writer Hunter S. Thompson,
particularly on the ground-breaking ‘gonzo
journalism’ Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.
Born in Wallasey, England, Steadman
initially worked as a cartoonist for
publications such as Punch and Private
Eye, quickly establishing himself as a
provocateur with an unfiltered visual voice.
Steadman’s printmaking is a key part
of his oeuvre, marked by experimental
techniques in etching, silkscreen, and
lithography.
‘Ascent of Man and Woman’ (2018) is
a screen print, kindly donated by the
Hidden Gallery in Clifton. The screen
print draws acute focus to the plight of
the homeless in Britain today, whilst still
retaining the beauty and urgency typical
of Ralph Steadman’s work.
