As the dust settles on another barn storming sale at John Rolfe Auctions, John and his merry band of beautiful young men, would like to take this chance to reflect on it’s success but we’re all just to bloody busy!
We set the tone with the watches with 100% success rate, the best of which a diamond incrusted Cartier watch which sold for £10,500! A provincial record for the model.
This was followed by a historically important lot which garnered interest from across the globe. The Rourke’s Drift surgeons kit issued to James Henry Reynolds VC (1844-1932) sold considerably above its estimate at £4600, to a chap in the room (that’s right we do get people in the room), who enjoyed himself so much he came back for day twos offerings.
Bucking the trend of other UK based auction houses, the furniture section was a resounding success with a sale percentage of 98%. We have been incredibly picky with furniture since day one and in our opinion every piece we take in has to be special. Our ‘no bureaus - no corner cupboards - no pembroke tables’ policy has only slipped a few times!
Whether it be fossilised skulls, model trains or a London pie shop sign, everything exceeded expectations in the first sale of the year.
However, there’s no time to rest… as the Bloomsbury collection is here as are many other incredible pieces, the year looks to have got off to a fantastic start for John and his team.
